Stephen has studied martial arts since childhood. He has competed in Judo, wrestling, karate and weapons tournaments. He has attained his 3rd dan black belt in Tang Soo Do and is a 4th degree master in Chow-Hoon Goshin-Jitsu. He has also attained the accolade of Knighthood in The Society of Creative Anachronism for his prowess with the knightly weapons of the high middle ages to include, the broad sword, spear, axe, mace, dagger, long sword, shield and unarmed combat. In the Society he is known as Sir Stephen MacAlpin. He has spent more than 27 years studying the crafting of and history of weapons as well as the life of the people of the European High Middle Ages.
